AMADA ZOILA LOPEZ VALENCIA, 82, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2018. She was born in La Casita, Texas on November 22, 1936. She was preceded in death by her father, Graciano Lopez, her mother, Ana Salinas Lopez, her sister Mary and her sister Amelia.

Amada is survived by her husband of 53 years Ray Valencia, her two children Ricardo Lopez Valencia, his wife Lisa and Esperanza “Hopie” Valencia Gallego and her husband Juan; five grandchildren, Monica, Alberto, Zacarias, Maximo, Sofia and one great grandchild, Danica; brothers Felix, Guadalupe, sisters Jesusita, Blanca and Florence, brothers and sisters in law, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends and neighbors.

Amada Valencia lived and spoke her truth. She was, above all else, elegant, fierce, just, direct, and protective.  She arrived in Marana in 1962 and shortly thereafter began a 30 plus year career with the Pima County Sheriffs Department. She began her career as a deputy sheriff and when she became a mother, worked as a dispatcher. She learned from her father to open her door to help those in need and hold them accountable for their actions. She would be the first to defend you if you were innocent and the first to turn you in if you were guilty. She extended her love for her family and friends through her cooking. Her green corn tamales, sour cream chicken enchiladas and homemade tortillas were always in demand. For Easter and Christmas she would sell tamales, earning extra money to anonymously decorate the church with Easter lilies and Christmas poinsettias. She loved to sing and dance in her kitchen and she sparkled wherever she went.
