Kathy S. Alvarez
Kathy S. Alvarez, 65, of Goodyear died July 27, 2015, in Avondale.
Ms. Alvarez was born Dec. 15, 1949, in Carlsbad, N.M.
She was a transcriber for the Phoenix Police Department.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan M. Garcia and Jennifer Newell; two sisters, Nina S. Fox and Nancy Sandate; one brother, Armando Sandate; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be at 10 a.m. today, with a service at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Mortuary, 9925 W. Thomas Road in Avondale. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 10045 W. Thomas Road in Avondale.
Thomas Barker, 84, of Litchfield Park died July 25, 2015, in Avondale from a stroke.
Mr. Barker was born April 29, 1931, in Phoenix to Edith and Thomas Barker Sr.
He graduated from a one-room school and ran track at Tolleson Union High School. He then attended the University of Arizona, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and flew in pontoon equipped planes while residing mostly in Alaska.
He was also a cotton farmer in the West Valley, Casa Grande and Mexico. He later sold vacant land as a real estate broker in the area.
He is survived by his wife, Helga Barker of Litchfield Park; the mother of his children, Tomie Barker; one daughter, Paula Barker of Phoenix; one son, Jeffrey Barker of Litchfield Park; three stepchildren; two sisters, Estelle Short of Red Bluff, Calif., and Gerry Grout of Phoenix; and one grandchild.
No services are planned.
Wistina ‘Tina’ Lygene Fitts
Wistina “Tina” LyGene Fitts (nee Kimbrell), 40, of Buckeye died July 28, 2015, in Phoenix from heart problems.
Mrs. Fitts was born Oct. 12, 1974, in Phoenix.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Randon Fitts and Justin Fitts; her parents, Mike and Judy Kimbrell; two sisters, Wanita Lopez and Amanda Rose; two brothers, Rick Meeks and J.J. Kimbrell; one grandparent, Gracie Chivers; and one grandchild.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. today at Ganley’s Buckeye Funeral Home, 104 E. Baseline Road in Buckeye.
The Rev. Albert Lopez will officiate.

Mark Edward Larson
Mark Edward Larson, 74, of Sun City and formerly of Litchfield Park died July 26, 2015.
Mr. Larson was born Oct. 21, 1940, in Durand, Ill.
He joined the United States Air Force in 1958. While stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska, he met and married Janet D. Janiak in May 1964.
He graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha and then entered Officer Candidate School, graduating in 1972. He retired from the Air Force in 1982.
He owned and operated Sun City Home Tax Service for 25 years and was an enrolled agent.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janet D. Larson; three children, Tracy Guynn of Litchfield Park, Kathy White of Avondale and Jeffery Larson of Avondale; one sister, Julie Larson; one brother, Keith Larson; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 9728 W. Palmeras Drive in Sun City. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 10045 W. Thomas Road in Avondale.

Joe ‘Lupe’ C. Perez
Joe “Lupe” C. Perez, 74, of Avondale died July 26, 2015, at his home.
Mr. Perez was born July 22, 1941, in Taft, Texas.
He moved to Arizona in 1946.
He started his career as a butcher, working as a teenager for Garcia’s Market, then later worked for the Littleton Elementary District in the maintenance department.
He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Perez.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Perez; three sons, Joseph Perez, Mario Pedroza and Jose Vargas; four daughters, Barbara Perez, Cynthia Perez, Destiny Mendoza and Chris Chavaria; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A memorial gathering will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at La Mision Jubilee Center, 11147 W. Buckeye Road in Avondale.
